Cartoon-a-Palooza, Saturday, April 19 @ 9:30 a.m. - Old State Capitol

Clowns, spacewalks and cartoon images will be scattered across the lawn of the Old State Capitol on Saturday, April 19, for Cartoon-a-Palooza, part of the Red Stick International Animation Festival.

Cartoon-a-Palooza is an annual highlight of the festival, where children come to the Old State Capitol for breakfast and Saturday morning cartoons. This year, Cartoon-a-Palooza will feature Curtis Jobling, creator of “Frankenstein’s Cat,” and the voice of “Scooby-Doo,” Scott Innes, to show cartoons and sign autographs for children. The Baton Rouge Cartoonists Society will host a special workshop for children Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Old State Capitol Senate Chamber.

As part of this annual event, children are invited to have their Saturday morning fun downtown. Cartoon-a-Palooza features free screenings of kid-friendly animation. Children are invited to arrive (in pajamas, of course!) at the Old State Capitol at 9:30 a.m. to participate. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative PJs.

In addition to Saturday morning cartoons, donuts are being provided through sponsorships with local companies. Clowns will be on hand to entertain the children and to paint faces. Also, spacewalks designed to look like classic childhood cartoons will be available for jumping.

This event is free and open to the public, as are all screenings taking place during Red Stick International Animation Festival. Parents can bring a change of clothes for their children and enjoy an animated day downtown at the other festival events following Cartoon-a-Palooza.
