AT THE RED STICK INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL

BATON ROUGE – Disney•Pixar’s upcoming feature film, “Brave,” will be showing at an advance screening available only to audiences at the Red Stick International Animation Festival on Sunday, June 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Manship Theatre.

“Brave” follows the heroic journey of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson).  Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane).  Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish.  The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources—including her clever and mischievous triplet brothers—to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, and discover the meaning of true bravery.

Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor that audiences of all ages around the world have come to expect. Based on an original story by Chapman, “Brave” was written by Andrews, Steve Purcell and Chapman & Irene Mecchi.  The film takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters. “Brave” is rated PG by the MPAA.

Andrews, who brings a life-long passion for Scotland, Scottish history and action-adventure films to his role, served as story supervisor on the Oscar^®-winning animated features “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille.” In bringing “Brave” to the big screen, Chapman, a long established storyteller with credits including “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King,” was inspired by her own relationship with her young daughter, as well as a love of Scotland.

This special screening is a highly [...]]]> Thanks so much to all who registered to attend the Red Stick Festival’s Super Secret Special Presentation. We are beyond excited about this event, and can’t wait to make the announcement with in a few days about what this event really is. We promise you will not be disappointed!

This special screening is a highly secure event. ABSOLUTELY NO RECORDING DEVICES WILL BE ALLOWED IN.  There will be a security check point before you can enter the event. All cell phones, cameras, or any other electronic recording devices will be held at the door. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

Due to the security process, we ask that you arrive early to the event. We will open the doors an hour before the start time. When you arrive, please bring your printed email confirmation to the Manship Theatre’s ticket desk to receive your official tickets for the event. Once you receive your tickets, you will be directed to  proceed through the security checkpoint. Each ticket holder will receive a wristband once they have been cleared by security. NO ONE will not be allowed to enter the theatre AT ANY TIME without that wrist band.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Concessions will be open, and all ticket holders will receive a free cupcake!  This is an amazing opportunity, and we are so excited to be able to share it with you! We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

The films that received the highest scores from the first-round jury underwent further review from the festival staff [...]]]> BATON ROUGE – The Red Stick International Animation Festival has selected the finalists for its 2012 “Best of the Fest” film competition from the following categories: Animated Short -Professional, Animated Short – Student, Experimental, and Music Video.

The films that received the highest scores from the first-round jury underwent further review from the festival staff and a panel of animation professionals to determine the finalists.

The Red Stick International Animation Festival “Best of the Fest” 2012 finalists (in no particular order) are:

Category: Animated Short Film – Professional

Category: Experimental Animation

*  Impetus
*  The Cycle of Life

*  Sunbelt State
*  Countdown

The festival’s professional film jury will review these films to determine the winner for each category. In categories for which there is only one film entered, the jury will determine whether the quality merits the award. The top work in each category will receive the festival’s Red Baton award.

As in previous years, Red Stick International Animation Festival will announce the Red Baton winners during the festival.

7:00PM      OSCAR SHORTS

Screening of the animated short films that were nominated for an Academy Award in 2012.

Saturday, June 9th

3:00PM – 6:00PM       CARTOON-A-PALOOZA

No registration is needed for this free, family event. This event will be located in the Plaza for the Shaw Center for the Arts. There will be face painting, clowns, balloon artists, airbrush tattoos, caricature artists, carnival games, karaoke for the entire family, free cupcakes and open concessions.

4:00PM     TANGLED EVER AFTER and RED STICK ‘BEST OF THE FEST’ COMPETITION SCREENINGS

This double feature will begin with Disney’s Tangled Ever After, a short film sequel of the 2012 film, Tangled. Then stick around to watch animated short films that were entered into the festival’s competition by students and professionals from all around the world.

Films for the festival competition are accepted in five categories: Best Short Film – Student, Best Short Film – Professional, Best Music Video, Best Scientific [...]]]> The Red Stick International Animation Festival is pleased to announce that the deadline for entries in their 2012 Best of the Fest competition has been extended to January 31, 2012.

Films for the festival competition are accepted in five categories: Best Short Film – Student, Best Short Film – Professional, Best Music Video, Best Scientific Visualization and Best Experimental Animation. Winner of each category will receive a $1000 cash prize. The best film of the festival will also win the Baton D’Or (the Gold Baton) which also comes with an additional $1000 cash prize.
